Sciatica Treatment in Eagan MN?
What is Sciatica?
Sciatica is the term for pain that radiates from the sciatic nerve. Since the sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, this pain usually begins in the low back and radiates around the buttock, down the back of the thigh and below the knee.
The pain can be isolated in various parts of the nerve path or the entire nerve may flare up. Sciatica treatment through chiropractic therapy is very effective in treating the cause of the pain.
What Causes Sciatic Nerve Pain?
Most commonly, sciatic nerve pain is caused by a herniated disc in the lumbar (low back) area of the spine. Between each vertebra in the spine is a disc that serves as a cushion to minimize the impact of gravity on the spinal column as we bend and move. Each disc is shaped like a jelly donut with a soft center. When this center ruptures (or moves outside the cushion) it’s called a disc herniation. When a disc herniation puts pressure directly on the sciatic nerve, the result is the pain we call sciatica.
Other causes of sciatic nerve pain include injury and infections, but sometimes sciatic nerve pain occurs because of the changes a woman’s body undergoes during pregnancy.
